The defendant confessed to 17 offences at the judicial center on Friday

A person who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and gave them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males who were nine and 10.

The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

However, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The accused was held in detention before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he managed.

Ruben played a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She explained the man had been able to explain this for many years as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepson notified the police about his worries.

She explained the defendant went on to conduct the "candy game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the events.

Mrs Prior explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police once more.

She explained Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five youngsters.
